Information on bringing assistance and support animals onto the University campus. If you are prospective student with an assistance dog or support animal, tell us about this as soon as possible so that we can support you and try to ensure a smooth transition for you and your assistance dog.Assistance Dogs are defined as highly trained working dogs, performing specific tasks to assist disabled persons. Assistance Dogs usually (but not always) have formal identification. They are permitted to accompany their owners at all times and in all places within the United Kingdom (unless there is a genuine health and safety risk). If your dog has been trained outside of the UK or via a non-standard route, we may require additional information as set out in the policy below.Emotional Support Animals or Therapy Dogs are not recognised in the same way as Assistance Dogs in UK law, so they do not have the same rights of access. Such animals are not typically permitted in University buildings. If you are a prospective student who has an existing support animal, contact us. In some cases students are permitted to have their Emotional Support Animal living with them in University-managed accommodation. Please be aware this is not always possible and depends on factors including accommodation availability and the timing of the request.
